It is a tough market to crack just now. Worked with a web designer last week who was great - but there is a lot of competion.

Where have you advertised so far? Do you have a USP? Do you have a specific target market?

Don't want to be a hater but feel I must.

Just took a look at your website & its a no-go area. 1 big image map.
Sub-pages are again more big image maps.

I have to ask where you learnt this and again not trying to be a hater but these types of techniques should never be used and definitely never sold. If you haven't already I would recommend going to W3Schools Online Web Tutorials and learning the html/css. Even as a basis for starting in the industry.

I work in the Industry with relative success (steady income, work lined up etc) and although I'm not driving round in a Porsche (its cos i don't drive lol) I couldn't sell that type of site to anyone. If I did I would never get repeat work from them.

Sorry to be putting it down but I can't see you getting anywhere in the industry with that as a website. It does seem as though you have a history of print-design or atleast that's how it comes across. Maybe you should switch over to that but web-design just isn't going to work from what I can see.

Don't mean to be a hater but best you find out early.

Hi RT

I welcome your opinion. This was just to earn a bit of extra money on the side whilst mine and my partners main businesses were getting started. We mainly just use it for ourselves and if a friend our acquaintances wants a quick simple website.

We don't pretend to be something we are not but it gets the job done which is a creating website.

My main business is selling my book at a self published author and my partner is developing a product that he has created.

I used to work as an architectural assistant but things are too good in that sector so I am making my own path, which I love.

Thanks for your comments, I took no offence

I'm glad you didn't take offense as that wasn't my intention.

You said its just to earn a bit on the side, and judging from the site your not looking to start making heavily php based systems so since its just static design you would make just as much from Printed Media, probably Kip FX could offer more insight into that side of things, but would be much better suited to the skill-set than webdesign and theres plenty of money in it.

A 2 week old company with an Elle 2007 image on their graphic design page, be very, very careful which imagery you use, even if you did this work with a previous employer, the copyright is not yours to use, this may come back and haunt you, also Alexander Craig jewellers have a different site to the one you are advertising under web-sites, if you have done this work and own the copyright or permissions ignore this.

But I have to be sceptical, for one, I am in the same business (But not worried about competition, we all help each other in this trade) and two, because 75% of my clients have had bad experiences in the past from designers, credibility is everything, and three, RT is right, if your webdesigns skills are not up to scratch, you may end up with some unhappy clients, and that is the most costly exercise to any business.

If I am wrong, welcome aboard and enjoy the forum, if I am right, simply edit the site, and build up your business on your own merits. Its not a walk in the park, but worth every second!

OK, well in that case, you need to ignore what I said, had a blog where a buddy asked me to add people not changing the names and basic details on a template, so thought you had, my apologies.
