Here is a little bit about it from Matt Cutts

If your targetting the UK market, have a .co.uk on a UK server, if its on a US server it can really effect your rankings

Just wish to resolve this.
Is SEO ranking affected by server location | TMDHosting Blog

The reason I point out that article is because it specifically references .co.uk domains on a US server, articles stating it having an affect relate to .com etc.

Kindest regards pete
it will effect your rankings/SEO. If you use a .co.uk domain on a UK server google will know that you are form the UK. If you use a .co.uk domain on a US server it will not know that you are REALLY from the UK and in turn have an adverse effect on your rankings.

Hi
I have hosted .co.uk domains in the US and have had no problem gaining top ten google positions.
I have heard some hosting companies say that location makes a difference but I agree with the advice so far in this thread, this seems correct from my practical experience. Domains with .co.uk are assumed to be UK and neutral domains can be geo-located to confirm location and target market.

From our experience, much like IP, we have seen no issues since we moved our hosting from the UK to the States over 3 years ago. Our .co.uk has targetted UK traffic, dedicated server costs are cheaper, and support is out of this world.

After going through 2 UK hosters, the last supposedly a major player, we haven't looked back. My biggest worry was transaction times, but in hindsight, we are quicker now in Texas, than when we were in Manchester.

If anyones interested (or cares) we use Planet.com. Can't praise them enough.

Hi guys,

I have run tests on this with a previous website and seen no difference in results irrelevant of where you host your site.

The one thing that nobody has mentioned (and actually gets my goat) is that we used to be quite proud of the British Industry/Product, if so many of you host abroad, you are sending money earned in the UK to other countries, do not scratch your head when a UK webhost company is in the news for laying off 50 staff, or the economy is weak and sterling is struggling.

I am getting increasingly wound up at how many people use a foreign country/company to save a few quid a month, and yet will complain about the economy when your grandkids cannot find work, or are staking shelves.

It is not just a choice of where your server is, it is a moral obligation to make a difference to the country you live in, if a product cannot be bought here, you do not have much choice (ie a Spanish omelette ) but you get the point!

I refuse to even buy flowers in supermarkets, as I would rather help keep the independent florists in business, who cares about saving 50p or a few quid, would rather save the country that gave me a free education, free healthcare, lack of military presence on the high street, etc etc!

I really could go on!

My host is a UK company, with UK servers, whether it performs better in searches is down to me, but at least my money is staying where it is earned and not damaging our economy!

<where is the 2p icon? lol

I bet Kip has one of those Charles and Diane cups on the sideboard... I can imagine you typing that with some Great British band music pumping out in the background and pictures of Corgi's hanging over the PC

Good on ya fella..
