Well...we have been from the start really, infact Marks & Spencers copied our idea to charge for plastic carrier bags.
Well now we dont offer them at all....
Chance to hand over plastic bags we've hoarded Published Date: 06 November 2008
The Make Midhurst Plastic Bag Free campaign has announced an amnesty for all those environmentally-unfriendly bags shoppers have been storing at home.
It follows the launch last week of the Midhurst Town Council-inspired campaign, led by Councillor Steve Morley.
With the help of a major sponsor, the Easebourne environmental business Green and Pleasant, and a consortium of businesses, 2,300 free reusable jute bags are currently being distributed to every home in the town.
Now the campaign has enlisted the help of Parkland Cars on the corner of North Street and Lamberts Lane and Midhurst Pets in Wool Lane to act as collection points for unwanted plastic bags.
"People will be able to clear those drawers and cupboards where they have hoarded their bags for so many years," said Mr Morley this week.
He said all the plastic bags collected during the amnesty would be offered to Midhurst Grammar School where students have been recycling them by weaving them into reusable bags.
