Trouble with preventing people going overdrawn Ben is that means a lot of Direct Debit payments would fail, even more hassle for the payee and business alike....

EG. Your car is not insured because the payment was stopped, you have no TV licence, your Mortgage did not get paid etc....

If the lobbyists had won, not only would we have wasted millions of tax payer money funding the enquiry (already wasted), we would have lost Billions of tax payer money from state controlled banks and those that are careless with money would have been given the impression that it did not matter if they got themselves in a mess they could just reclaim the bank costs back, not to mention that all of us would probably have had to pay more for other banking facilities to make up the gap.

I noticed that one woman interviewed in her home complaining that the charges were 'unfair' and how she was forced to go beyond her overdraft limit had probably atleast £2k of DVD's on a shelf behind her....learn some restraint woman and stop expecting the world to bail out your mistakes!!

I just wonder how many of the claimants have already spent the money they were demanding and expecting to get back?!
Although I agree with you in principle.

I found it a bit over the top to be charged £90 for going overdrawn on one account to the tune of £5.?

Maybe there need to be a more reasonable charge for the minor amounts e.t.c

No sympathy whatsoever and Im glad the banks have won - people would whine if they refused a direct debit as you were under on your account and then they whine when the bank accepts it and charges you for using money you don't own.

Every customer signs up to terms and conditions when they open an account and charges etc are all in there so if people dont like it then they know what they can do but THANK GOD the banks (i.e. us!) do not now have to start compensating all those people who went overdrawn (ahem, stole money for a short time) with our money and reward them for their poor financial sense.
