Think I preferred the name iSlate!

Do you think it will succeed?

It was crazy in San Francisco today....

I actually like the look of the thing, maybe one day when I actually have some cash to spend I'll get myself one.. by then it will be version 28.0 so all the bugs would have been ironed out.

It will sell, you could put the Apple logo on an empty tin can "iCan" and someone would buy it.

I really hate the guy in that image.

He was pretty much the reason Apple succeeded, brought in a president to run the company whilst he was to busy with the mac/apple war then got himself fired for it. Now he comes back in does all these conferences launching new items etc.

He always claimed computers should be art etc, Microsoft always claimed they came first (at launching with apple software ), Apple may be better but they weren't first so missed the mass opportunity.

Yeah I haven't explained it well, he just well... he's a rich idiot, he got fired from a company he co-founded..How the hell do you manage that one!

Anyway about the product, i've never heard of it looks more like a photoshops image or something, I have though recently been looking at Iphone Apps and next year will finally get found to buying one to play around with make some apps of my own.

Whatever your thoughts on Steve Jobs, he has built Apple up twice and created Pixar into a multi-billion dollar company in between (before selling out). He sure doesn't need to work, but like other successful business creators the company would suffer without his leadership, real or pure media play.

Yeah I agree, whilst he is in a position at a company they always thrive, he can sell someone on anything. I still think only an idiot gets fired by someone they employ.

There is a history of company founders getting fired by their board, only for the company to suffer afterward. For example, Queensway firing Phillip Harris, who set up rival Carpetright or Phillip Green, who was ousted from his retail chain "What Everyone Wants" (I think) only to prove them wrong taking over Arcadia (Top Shop etc) and BHS.

A founder / entrepreneur is often not suited to running a Public company, whilst they take a longer term view to profits/ growth the city want continued profit expansion and so the person who created the company is removed by the board in the false belief that they can do better without them.

I am a strong believer in the founder(s) maintaining 51% of the company at all times. Unless they volunteer to remove themselves and sell there 51% entirely, never been a 49% or less holder in the company you invent otherwise you'll be 100% unemployed within time.

Hmm...Its quite large isnt it?

Cant see myself lugging one around but then I dont really need to. What does it bring to the table that a laptop / netbook / smart phone doesnt ?

Who is it aimed at ?

They are trying to kill off the Amazon Kindle and take over the world of the e-book market.

I must admit I never knew about the Amazon Kindle thing until about a week ago, my wife wanted a book on Scots Law, I figured an e-book would do the job so checked on Amazon and went into the Kindle area (thinking it was just like a category name) then when I found I had to buy her a damn Kindle to read the book I was off the site quicker than a priest in a strip club.

Seems like a laptop would do the job for me though. Sorry Apple!
