If you need to use something like erm.... well ... I don't know, a program that only works in Windows ... MS Acess for Vista - I am sure there are plenty of others too, maybe it would be better to use Windows. Most of the major apps actually work quite well in Linux though with Wine- things like MS Word, Photoshop CS2 and so on. Even a lot of games work in Linux - I played about 7 seasons in Football Manager in Linux.
However when I get asked to fix people's computers, my first call is to CTRL+ALT+DEL where I see 60+ processes running, usually baddies. Most people just can't look after their computers. I am sure some people would make a hash of Linux too. My only conversion so far are the parents, so I can't really attest.
Naturally as a Linux user, I don't like MS. When I was buying a dedicated server, I had the option to add on loads of MS stuff. I was shocked by the pricing. Stuff like $1,000 month for the privilege of using MSSQL. I can't see who could afford that. I also used to own a company which I had no say in operations, which was paying a lot of money each money because of MS products when the company was actually a LAMP based company.
However, I am not really a Microsoft basher. I just get on with things. I just wish they would stop bringing out web browsers because they are the bane of all web developer's lives.
