Default Nokia Upsetting the Apple cart!

Nokia has often upset the networks with it's determination to sell services such as music directly to Nokia handset owners, bypassing the networks own attempts to sell such services.

But it's latest offering, on it's soon to be launched flagship N97 handset (a touchscreen Apple-esque handset) has the networks blood boiling. Nokia has included Skype allowing users to by pass the network and make free internet calls.

Both 02 and Orange are looking to refuse to sell the handset unless Nokia removes the feature, while Nokia is considering adding the feature to all it's top end N-Series handsets.

Would you buy a phone for the Skype feature?

I dont think that Skype is a huge selling feature...?

Normally networks (especially Orange) deactivate VOIP functions in there version of the firmware - are Nokia refusing to let them use their own branded firmware on the N97 or just refusing to let them cripple VOIP / Skype?

That is a good question Tony, Nokia and Orange have on many occasions battled over Orange's filmware, which has led Orange to often halt sales of Nokia handsets on the claims of 'software faults', on this occasion it appears that Nokia is insisting it's Skype client will remain on the handset as a condition of it's sale.
