Default Labour Offering the Earth

How long do we have to wait before Labour will be offering a personal nurse to wipe your brow if you have a cold and they win the next election?

Some of their latest claims remind me of the Comms industry in the 90s, large chains would offer a handset with a £5k holiday, and the ability to live forever, knowing very well the handset was discontinued, but it got you through their doors.

The Labour party is now making all kinds of promises that they can not realistically (financially) provide, in the assumption they will lose the next election, but can point at and say "well the Tories didn't do that" by the next election in four years time.

When that election comes they will rely on either the public forgetting or they will claim that it is no longer possible because of the actions of the last Government.

I propose that when a party makes such claims, they should be forced to stick with it for 8 years, if they can not stick by the plan for eight years it should not be allowed in the public domain.

I think (hope) the general public will be smart enough to realise that Labour blaming the UK's entire financial problems on a global economic crisis is largely a load of tosh, and had they been more responsible with the finances (eg not chucking huge sums of money at anything and everything) we wouldn't be in anywhere near as big a mess as we are now.

Thing is, call me a heartless b@stard, but even if the country's finances were in fairly good shape, the prospect of giving every cancer sufferer a private nurse wouldn't help win my vote anyway. I'd love to see a new government maintain the basics of free basic healthcare, education etc, but otherwise to cut back on virtually everything.

The government should not try to get involved in every part of our lives. They should do the basic essentials, encourage working by cutting national insurance, and generally encourage people to become responsible for their own lives.

Sneak preview of Brown's next speech:

"In 2012, we, the labour party will be the only party that guarantees that EVERY citizen of the UK will be given their very own Jet Rocket Pack to ease congestion on our roads. We have also discovered a cure for baldness and have just instructed our top scientist to go and fix the polar ice caps.. I now declare myself extreme leader of the world having just saved every living being from certain death - a vote for me is a vote for money in my, I mean your pocket"

I think labour will be out soon they do not seam to be interested in helping small businesses after all 80% of businesses are made up of 1 to 5 employees.
