Default Google considers shutting down in China

Seems that Google have had enough of the goings on in China. It says that there have been "cyberattacks" on its Gmail system against Chinese human rights activists.

I've seen a couple of different figures for what was expected to be Google's revenue in China this year ($500-$600m) and wonder if it has the bottle to take the big step. If it made the decision there would not be any going back under the current set-up in China.

It will be interesting to see how this develops over the coming weeks and months..

It is admiral if it is for purely ideological grounds, but it seems an odd response to the problem of hacked accounts.

While a fair bit of revenue, I wonder what it is costing them to keep .cn censored and with only 30% share of the market they have decided the all or nothing gamble will make little difference to their profitability.

As well as that, it has been a remarkably well orchestrated publicity stunt, with the right 'feel' to give the company a positive vibe across the rest of the world.

For China, every search result in Google should link to Democracy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yep that would soon bore the Chinese population enough for them to stop using Google

Google seems to be widening it's resolve to exit China, two phones built for the Chinese market with the Android operating system (one by Samsung the other by Motorola) have had their launch delayed as Google demands that it's applications and the Google name are removed from the phones.
