Anyone who was unfortunate enough to watch the debate on the iraq enquiry will have witnessed a complete contempt for
-the house of parliament
- the views of mps of all parties
- democracy itself.
Speaker after speaker of all parties , many labour stood up and demanded what clearly democracy called for.
(a) An enquiry whose terms of reference are debated and agreed in the house.
(b) An enquiry with the teeth to demand attendance, and perjury proceedings awaits for those who lie to it.
(c) An enquiry whose composition is agreed by the house including military political and partlcularly legal cross examination
(d) An enquiry able to report before the next election on the matter of going to war.
(e) An enquiry meeting conducted in public
(f) An enquiry able to apportion blame
(g) AN enquiry responsible to the house.
What did we get?
A group of sir humphreys, including a leader known to be reliable at covering up awkward facts in northern ireland, a historian who thinks BLIAR is "churchill" and bush is "roosevelt" clearly biassed., and a token woman nobody has ever heard off. To meet in secret, on terms it sees fit,and report as late as possible.
Sure the executive bowed to pressure on "secret" but
used a 3 line whip to make sure the truth otherwise remains buried forever.
Complete contempt for parliament, the electorate and democracy.
Brown fails to realise.
This will never go away until settled
And legal action is already in place to bring blair to a war crime tribunal.
I would have thought recent events would have returned some respect back for the institurtions they have abused. Not a bit of it.
More of the same. |
